Special Needs Children Diagnostic And Testing Services
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will this service provide me?
This testing service will determine if the child is suffering from ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) or not.
Academy of Certified Counsellors will conduct a diagnostic interview with the parent(s) or guardian of the child in order to gather specific information that will help us identify whether their child is suffering from ASD or not.
Time will be given in observing the child at play to draw out specific data regarding the child's functioning. The attending psychologist will then draw observational data to assess the child's performance as to whether the child is suffering from ASD or not.
Why is this assessment important?
If the child is suffering from ASD, the parents should know about it as early as possible.
During the formative years, it is important that the parents (guardian) become aware of their child's condition. Early detection of any disability/disorder is always an advantage compared to late detection. With early detection, the parents and professionals can immediately apply the interventions necessary to support the child in their development.
Validity of the assessment
The diagnostic interview relies heavily on the accuracy of the reports of the person being interviewed. No one knows the child more than the parents (guardian) and no one can speak in the place of the child anymore than the parents (guardian).
A positive result would suggest that the child is suffering from a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Results of the assessment
With qualified psychologists using standardized testing materials, results of the assessment are valid and reliable. As such, the results will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
